How to Improve Enlarged Vertical Pores: Potenza & Juvelook

Hello, I’m Dr. Yeonjin Kim, Medical Director of UH CELL Gangnam (formerly Dr. Petit Clinic Gangnam).
Today, I’d like to talk about enlarged pores, one of the most common concerns we see at our Gangnam clinic, and explain how Potenza and Juvelook can help.
After the summer, many patients notice that the pores around the T-zone, nose, and below the lower lip appear more prominent. In many cases, the pores also become more vertically elongated, making makeup more likely to settle into them.
For patients with these concerns, we often recommend a combination of the Potenza Pumping Tip and Juvelook Skin, as the two treatments complement each other well. This combination approach has also become increasingly popular in Seoul.
Why Do Pores Become Enlarged?

There are two main causes of enlarged pores.
The first is increased sebum production.
During the hot and humid summer months, the sebaceous glands become more active, naturally producing more oil. As excess sebum is released through the pores, the pore openings can gradually appear larger. This is especially noticeable around the nose, where blackheads and whiteheads often make enlarged pores even more visible. This is a very common concern, particularly in climates with hot, humid summers.

The second major cause is loss of skin elasticity.
As collagen and elastin decline with age and sun exposure, the skin loses the structural support that keeps pores firm. As a result, the tissue surrounding the pores begins to sag, causing them to become vertically elongated rather than simply wider.
Photoaging, caused by chronic exposure to UV rays and heat, accelerates the breakdown of collagen and plays a significant role in this process. Lifestyle factors can also contribute to the progression of enlarged pores.
In Korean aesthetic medicine, it is now widely recognized that achieving meaningful improvement requires addressing both excess sebum production and the loss of skin elasticity, rather than focusing on just one cause.
Why Is the Potenza Pumping Tip Effective for Enlarged Pores?

The Potenza Pumping Tip targets both of the main causes of enlarged pores at the same time.
It works by delivering radiofrequency (RF) energy into the skin through ultrafine microneedles. This controlled stimulation triggers the skin’s natural healing response, encouraging the production of new collagen. As collagen levels increase and the skin becomes denser and firmer, the pores can appear tighter and less noticeable.
In addition, the RF energy delivered into the dermis creates controlled thermal coagulation within the tissue, which may help reduce sebaceous gland activity. As a result, the treatment can also improve pore enlargement associated with excess sebum production, addressing another major cause of enlarged pores.
This dual-action approach has been widely adopted in Korean aesthetic clinics for patients with a variety of pore concerns.
Now, let’s look at how Juvelook Skin helps improve enlarged pores.

Juvelook contains PDLLA, which is gradually broken down within the dermis, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin over time. As the skin’s structural support improves, elasticity around the pores also increases, making enlarged pores appear naturally smaller and less noticeable.
Its fine particles are designed to disperse evenly throughout the treated area, allowing the product to work not only where it is injected but also in the surrounding tissue. This can help improve fine lines and mild acne scars as well.
In addition, Juvelook contains hyaluronic acid, which provides immediate hydration and subtle volume, helping pores appear less prominent even shortly after treatment.
This combination of collagen stimulation and hydration is widely used in Korean aesthetic clinics to improve overall skin texture and pore appearance.
Why Do Potenza and Juvelook Work Better Together?
When Juvelook is delivered using the Potenza Pumping Tip, the treatment combines the skin’s natural healing response triggered by microneedling with Juvelook’s collagen-stimulating effects.
As the skin repairs itself, collagen and elastin production is further enhanced. Combined with the hydrating benefits of hyaluronic acid, this helps improve overall skin quality and elasticity. This combination is particularly effective for vertically enlarged pores caused by loss of skin firmness.
It’s important to remember, however, that enlarged pores cannot usually be corrected with a single treatment. Consistent treatment is key to achieving the best results. Although every patient’s needs are different, we generally recommend at least three sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
This treatment schedule is commonly used in Korean aesthetic medicine to achieve gradual, long-lasting improvement.
How Should You Choose the Right Clinic?

This is something I’ve emphasized since my time at Dr. Petit Clinic: using genuine products and maintaining strict hygiene standards are among the most important factors when choosing a clinic.
In particular, the Potenza Pumping Tip should always be single-use, as reusing it increases the risk of infection. Proper skin disinfection before treatment is also a fundamental part of safe clinical practice.
These standards are essential in any medical setting and are a key part of delivering safe, high-quality aesthetic treatments.
It’s also important to choose a clinic with well-established treatment protocols that provides thorough consultations based on experience with a wide variety of cases.
When multiple treatment options are available, taking the time to choose a clinic that offers personalized care and a systematic approach can help you achieve the best possible results.
Before we wrap up, there’s one last thing I’d like to mention.
Once pores have become significantly enlarged, there is a limit to what skincare products alone can achieve.
Daily skincare—such as proper cleansing, sebum control, and consistent sun protection—is important for preventing further enlargement, but it is often not enough to noticeably reduce pores that have already expanded.
We’ve also seen an increasing number of patients experience skin irritation and redness after using unverified products or undergoing treatments that lack sufficient clinical evidence.
Rather than relying on exaggerated marketing claims, the safest and most effective approach is to consult with a qualified medical professional and choose a treatment plan tailored to your individual skin condition.
This personalized, evidence-based approach has become an increasingly important principle in Korean aesthetic medicine.
