Blisters or Oozing After Laser Treatment: Do Not Pick—Call
2026/09/23
- Laser Skin Treatment
Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam.
Changes in your skin can feel worrying after a laser procedure. Many patients ask whether redness is expected and whether a blister or oozing can simply be watched at home.
Recovery varies with the type and intensity of laser, the treated area, and your skin condition. Rather than comparing your skin with someone else’s photo, tell the treating clinic when the change began and how it is evolving.
Redness and a blister are not the same signal
Redness, swelling, stinging, and warmth can occur after laser treatment. Procedures that resurface the skin may also cause more obvious dryness or peeling. The expected degree and duration, however, vary by procedure.
Contact the clinic if you develop a blister, ongoing oozing, thickening crust, or pain that is becoming worse. Rapidly spreading redness, yellow discharge, or fever also deserves prompt review. An examination is needed to distinguish infection, thermal injury, and an expected healing response.
Do not pop a blister or pick at a crust
The roof of a blister helps protect the new skin underneath. Puncturing it with a needle or peeling it with your nails can contaminate the wound. Repeatedly applying alcohol or a harsh antiseptic because you see fluid can also irritate the area.
Follow the cleansing and ointment instructions given after your procedure. Do not add a new cosmetic, exfoliant, retinol, or acid on your own. If you are unsure what to apply, check with the clinic instead of layering more products.
Share four details when you call
A short note is enough.
- The laser name, treatment date, and treated area
- When the blister or oozing first appeared and whether it spread
- Pain, warmth, itching, fever, or other accompanying symptoms
- Products applied and medicines taken since treatment
Photos taken in the same light and at the same distance make change easier to compare. Avoid filters and show the actual skin. Eye pain or a change in vision after treatment around the eye requires immediate medical assessment.
Watch the direction of change, not only the number of days
In addition to counting days of redness, notice whether the area is getting smaller, pain is settling, and new fluid has stopped. Healing speed varies from person to person. In contrast, rapidly worsening pain or swelling should not wait until a scheduled follow-up.
Whether the skin needs treatment or protected observation depends on an examination. Do not choose an antibiotic or ointment from online advice alone. The treating team knows the device and settings used, so share the course with them first.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Should I call about one small blister?
Size alone is not enough to decide. Send a photo and report the treated area, timing, pain, and any oozing.
Should I leave a crust until it comes off naturally?
Yes. Picking can increase bleeding, infection, color change, and scarring. Continue only the cleansing and protection you were instructed to use.
Can I cover the area with makeup for work?
Makeup may irritate skin that is open, peeling, or oozing. Ask the clinic when it is appropriate to restart it.
If a blister, oozing, or another unexpected change appears after laser treatment, do not manipulate the area. Prepare the treatment date and photos, then contact us. UHCELL Clinic Gangnam can review the skin and explain appropriate care and timing for assessment.
