Do You Need to Return to Korea for Skin Treatments?

- Skin Care
Having a skin treatment in Korea does not automatically mean you must return at fixed intervals. Whether you need another visit, and when, depends on your treatment plan. Before starting, share how long you will be in Seoul and how often you can return. Your skin assessment and travel schedule help determine whether a single-visit treatment or a series of sessions is appropriate.
Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam. Many international patients visit our Gangnam clinic during a short stay in Seoul. The question, “Will I need to fly back to maintain the results?” has real implications for travel plans and cost. To answer it, I first want to distinguish maintenance treatment from completing a planned series of sessions.
Maintenance Does Not Mean Mandatory Return Visits
Whether you need another visit, and the interval between visits, should be discussed as part of your treatment plan. How long results take to develop and how long they last depend on the procedure and your skin condition.
I would not tell you in advance that you must repeat a treatment simply because a certain number of months has passed. The next step is to allow the results to develop, reassess your skin, and then determine whether further treatment is appropriate.
The Key Distinction: One Visit or a Series of Sessions
Return travel becomes a practical concern when the initial treatment plan involves multiple sessions. If you are considering a series, clarify the number of sessions and their timing before starting. For a skin booster such as Rejuran Healer, ask how many sessions are proposed and how far apart they should be.
| Treatment type | General session pattern | What this means for a short stay in Seoul |
|---|---|---|
| Ultrasound or radiofrequency lifting, such as Ultherapy or Thermage | Often planned as a single treatment visit | Confirm the number of sessions and whether a return visit is needed. If you visit Seoul infrequently, discuss that when planning treatment. |
| Skin boosters, such as Rejuran Healer | May be planned as a series of sessions | Ask how many sessions are proposed and what intervals are needed before starting. |
| Treatments requiring multiple sessions in general | Results may be assessed after a period of time following the final session | Before starting a series, establish whether you can continue it after returning home. |
Your skin condition takes priority over your travel schedule when deciding which approach is appropriate. Please disclose pregnancy, any skin infection, and medications you take during the consultation.
Three Ways to Plan Treatment During a Short Stay
If a series of sessions is appropriate for your skin, I recommend deciding how you will complete it before the first session.
- Start in Seoul and continue during future visits. This may suit you if you already travel to Seoul regularly. Your usual travel dates may not match the proposed treatment intervals, so share the dates you can realistically return.
- Start in Seoul and continue care at home. Before beginning, ask a local clinician whether the relevant product or device is used there and whether they can provide continuing care.
- Choose a treatment planned for a single visit this time. If returning to Seoul or continuing care at home would be difficult, a single-visit treatment may be a more practical option for this trip, provided it is appropriate for your skin.
Having just one session of a proposed series is a separate decision. What you can expect from fewer sessions depends on the procedure and your skin condition. Ask about that specifically rather than assuming one session is equivalent to completing the plan.
Records to Take Home
Before leaving Korea, I recommend requesting the following information. It gives a local clinician a starting point for assessing your skin and helps us work from accurate information if you return to our clinic.
- The exact product or device name for each procedure.
- The treatment area and date.
- For injections, the amount used in each area.
- Aftercare instructions and any prescribed medications.
- The recommended timing for the next session or reassessment.
When Not to Wait for Your Next Visit
If you suspect an infection, or pain or swelling is worsening rather than improving, do not wait until your next trip to Seoul. Take your treatment records to a local medical facility and seek prompt in-person care. If symptoms are severe or worsening rapidly, go to an emergency department.
Contact the clinic where you received treatment as well, but messaging cannot replace an in-person medical assessment.
I also recommend reviewing your travel activities during recovery. When you can resume saunas or hot springs depends on the procedure and your skin condition. Follow the specific instructions you receive during your visit.
Planning Your Stay With Our Gangnam Clinic
Our Gangnam clinic is located on the second and third floors of UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam, at 13 Teheran-ro 8-gil, WD Building. We operate inside the UHC group hotel, rather than as an affiliated clinic in a separate building. Treatments can be performed in private rooms, and our Gangnam team includes interpreters who support Japanese, Chinese, and English.
UHC hotel guests can choose one complimentary benefit: a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV drip. If you use both, the vitamin IV drip costs KRW 55,000. Please review the promotion details for the applicable conditions.
We plan lifting and anti-aging treatments around an assessment of your skin rather than beginning with a standardized package. When requesting a consultation, share your arrival and departure dates and how often you expect to visit Seoul in the future. These details help establish whether a single-visit treatment or the first session of a longer course makes sense for you.
For more on coordinating treatment and recovery, see our article, Gangnam Lifting and Anti-Aging: Planning Treatment and Recovery.
FAQ
If the results seem to be fading, should I repeat treatment immediately?
Not necessarily. I recommend allowing the results to develop and having your current skin condition assessed before deciding on additional treatment, rather than repeating it simply because a scheduled date has arrived. Bring recent photos to your appointment to help with that assessment.
Can a clinician at home take over follow-up care?
It may be possible if the same product or device is used locally and a local clinician agrees to continue your care. Records showing the product name, treatment area, date, and amount used provide a starting point for that decision. Request a copy before leaving Korea and confirm arrangements with the local clinician in advance.
Can I fit several sessions into one trip?
That depends on the procedure. Some treatments can be scheduled at shorter intervals, while others require time between sessions. Share your travel dates during the consultation so the proposed schedule can be considered alongside your skin condition.
If you would like to discuss a plan for your stay, you can request a consultation through our clinic website. Please include your travel dates and whether future visits are realistic for you.
