Dullness and Sagging in Your 40s: Lifting or Peeling?

2026/10/17

  • Lifting Treatment

If you notice both dullness and loss of firmness in your 40s, lifting and peeling are not interchangeable choices. Lifting primarily addresses tissue laxity and facial contours, while peeling focuses on surface tone and texture. Start by identifying which change concerns you more: uneven tone or sagging.

Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Representative Director at UH CELL Clinic Gangnam.

If your face looks duller and less firm than before, it is understandable to wonder whether you need lifting or a peel. You may also hope that one treatment will address both concerns. I recommend separating the changes first, rather than choosing a procedure by its name. Here is how I would approach that distinction and what information you can prepare for a consultation.

Lifting and peeling address different concerns

Lifting treatments focus on tissue beneath the skin to address laxity and facial contours. Peeling focuses on the skin’s surface, including accumulated dead skin, uneven pigmentation, and rough texture.

I would not frame these as two competing treatments with one universal winner. They serve different purposes. The more useful question is whether changes in tone and texture or changes in your jawline and facial contours are your main concern.

Separate what you see before your consultation

You can use photographs to organize what you want to discuss. This is a way to describe your concerns, not a substitute for a diagnosis.

  • Take a front-facing photograph without makeup in natural light. Notice whether dullness, uneven color, or rough texture draws your attention first.
  • Take a side-view photograph as well. Look at whether a less defined jawline or sagging beneath the chin is what bothers you most.
  • If you gently draw your cheek toward your ear, notice what still concerns you. Does the change in contour resemble what you were hoping for, or is dullness still your main concern? Treat this as a way to explain your goal, not a test that determines which procedure you need.

If both concerns matter equally, you do not need to choose one before your visit. I suggest describing them separately so that priorities and timing can be discussed together.

What to prepare before booking

To make the discussion more specific, please prepare the following information:

  1. Front-facing and side-view photographs without makeup. The photographs described above are sufficient for organizing your concerns.
  2. The names and dates of skin procedures you have had within the past year, including lifting, peels, lasers, and injections.
  3. Medications you currently take, along with topical medicines and active skin care products, such as retinoids.
  4. Whether your skin reddens easily or tends to develop lingering pigmentation, including any pigmentation after previous procedures.
  5. Your dates in Seoul, your departure date, and any activities or events you would prefer not to disrupt after treatment.

Please share what you remember, even if you do not have every detail.

How we approach treatment planning at our Gangnam clinic

At our Gangnam clinic, we plan lifting, peeling, and anti-aging treatments around an assessment of each person’s skin rather than starting with a fixed package. Our treatment options include Ultherapy PRIME, Thermage FLX, Sofwave, Potenza, and Skinvive, but a device name alone does not determine the plan.

Because we offer both lifting and peeling, you can discuss tone, texture, and laxity in the same consultation. I encourage you to explain which change matters most to you, rather than assuming that every concern needs the same treatment.

Our Gangnam clinic is located on the second and third floors of UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam, at 13 Teheran-ro 8-gil, WD Building. If you are staying at that hotel, your room and the clinic are in the same building. Treatment in a private room is possible.

UHC hotel guests may choose one complimentary benefit: a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV infusion. If you use both, the vitamin IV infusion costs KRW 55,000. This benefit applies to UHC hotel guests, not hotel guests generally. Our Gangnam clinic also has interpretation staff for Japanese, Chinese, and English.

FAQ

Can peeling alone address loss of firmness?

Peeling primarily addresses surface tone and texture. I would not recommend relying on it alone for concerns such as a sagging jawline or loose skin beneath the chin. If laxity is your main concern, include lifting in the consultation rather than expecting a peel to serve the same role.

Will lifting also improve dullness?

Lifting targets laxity and firmness, so I would not assume that it will also resolve a surface-tone concern. If dullness bothers you, please raise it separately so that it remains part of the treatment discussion.

Can I have lifting and peeling on the same day?

That depends on your skin condition and the specific combination of treatments. Please mention both concerns and your travel dates so that an appropriate order and schedule can be discussed. Having both concerns does not automatically mean both procedures should be performed together.

Start with the change that matters most to you

Dullness and loss of firmness in your 40s do not necessarily call for a single treatment choice. I recommend bringing your photographs, treatment history, and travel dates to your consultation, then discussing tone and sagging as separate priorities. This gives us a clearer starting point for considering what to address first within your schedule.
