How to Choose a Gangnam Clinic Without Relying on Reviews

  • Lifting Treatment

Online reviews of Gangnam skin boosters and lifting treatments are shaped by Korean advertising law, which restricts how patient testimonials can describe treatment outcomes, so review counts and star ratings do not tell you much on their own. Five things you can actually verify before a consultation are the treatment’s official device or product name, whether it is designed after a skin diagnosis, the consultation languages available, each doctor’s published training and credentials, and whether recovery fits inside a short stay. This guide walks through those five checks and compares how skin boosters, Rejuran, Ultherapy, Thermage, and Oligio actually differ.

Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam. Many patients come to us asking which Gangnam clinic has the best reviews for skin boosters or lifting treatments, often after seeing a K-pop idol’s skin discussed online or watching a Korean beauty travel segment. My honest answer is that review counts matter less than confirming the treatment’s exact name, its approved use, how it is planned, and how recovery fits your schedule.

What a celebrity or travel show can and cannot tell you

Which clinic a specific celebrity visited, if any, is not something a clinic can confirm unless the celebrity or their agency says so publicly, so this article does not speculate about that. KBS WORLD TV’s 2025 series “Got the Spot in Gangnam” follows RESCENE member Minami around Gangnam, and the published episode description tags K-beauty store visits. A travel segment can show you a destination; it cannot tell you which treatment suits your own skin. That still has to start with an assessment of your skin, not with matching what you saw on screen.

This guide compares five treatments: skin boosters, Rejuran, Ultherapy, Thermage, and Oligio.

Five treatments, two different goals

Skin boosters and Rejuran are injected into the skin to address texture and hydration. Ultherapy, Thermage, and Oligio are lifting devices that address sagging and firmness. Which one is the right starting point depends on whether texture or sagging is the main concern.

Treatment How it works Confirmed approval or basis Ask about this in consultation
Skin booster Hyaluronic acid or similar ingredients injected in small amounts into the dermis Approved use depends on the specific product used Which product is used, and on which area
Rejuran Healer Salmon-derived polynucleotide (PN) injected into the dermis Pharmaresearch, the manufacturer, states it holds MFDS medical device approval for its PN ingredient Whether Rejuran Healer or Rejuran HB+ is being used
Ultherapy Microfocused ultrasound delivered at multiple depths, guided by real-time ultrasound imaging Per Merz, the manufacturer, FDA-cleared in the US for lifting the eyebrow, neck, and submental area and improving décolletage lines Which layer your sagging actually starts in
Thermage Monopolar radiofrequency heats the deep skin layer while cooling the surface Per Solta Medical, the manufacturer, FDA-cleared as a non-invasive wrinkle treatment device, including the eye area Whether any of the listed precautions apply to you
Oligio A lifting device on our clinic’s treatment list Ask in consultation about its mechanism and domestic approval Why it would be recommended over Thermage for your case

Rejuran HB+ adds hyaluronic acid and lidocaine to the original PN ingredient. According to Dailypharm, it received Korean MFDS approval for improving fine lines at the outer corner of the eyes in adults. Ultherapy’s newer platform, Ultherapy PRIME, received a separate FDA clearance in 2024, and a 2025 expert consensus statement published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology notes that FDA clearance for the abdomen and arms was added the same year.

An approval tells you what a device or product was cleared to do. It does not guarantee an individual result. Our clinic’s treatment list includes Ultherapy (Ultherapy PRIME), Thermage (Thermage FLX), Rejuran, Oligio, Skinvive, and Potenza, among others, and which combination fits you is decided after a diagnosis.

Why Gangnam reviews are hard to take at face value

Article 56(2) of Korea’s Medical Service Act prohibits advertising that could mislead patients about treatment effects, including patient testimonials. Article 56(1) of the same law prohibits medical advertising by anyone who is not a licensed medical professional or institution. That means an influencer’s post naming a specific clinic and describing a procedure’s results can qualify as illegal medical advertising.

According to Doctors News, of 286 illegal medical advertisements the Ministry of Health and Welfare identified in one enforcement sweep, 245 cases, or 85.7%, involved advertising by non-medical individuals or testimonial-style advertising run through non-medical individuals. A legal column in Dental News discusses case law finding that even a licensed provider can cross into misleading advertising by posting only favorable reviews or curating which testimonials appear.

Put together, a review you find online may be a paid placement, a filtered sample, or simply something the clinic is not allowed to post in the first place. We do not claim guaranteed outcomes or advertise using before-and-after comparisons either. The five checks below are what we suggest confirming directly instead.

Five things to check instead of reviews

  1. Is the treatment named by its actual device or product name? If a clinic only says “lifting” or “skin booster” without naming the device or product, ask. We disclose official names such as Ultherapy PRIME and Thermage FLX.
  2. Is the treatment designed after a skin diagnosis? The same skin booster can mean a different product and a different injection area depending on your skin’s condition. We assess your skin first and build the treatment plan from that assessment.
  3. Can you consult in your own language? Understanding a treatment’s scope and precautions depends on being able to discuss them clearly. Our Gangnam location has Japanese, Chinese, and English-speaking interpreters on staff.
  4. Are the doctors’ qualifications and training published? I completed graduate study at Seoul National University, trained at Seoul National University Hospital, and serve as an Allergan faculty member for Juvederm and Botox and as a Key Doctor for Potenza and Ultherapy Z. I am an instructor with the Korean Academy of Clinical Aesthetic Medicine and a full member of the Korean Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Laser Medicine. Our Seocho location’s chief physician, Dr. Kim Kyung-soo, graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and holds medical licenses in both Korea and Japan. Full details are listed on our doctors page.
  5. Can recovery fit inside your return date? If your trip is short, factor in travel and rest time after the appointment, not just the appointment itself.

If your stay is short, plan the recovery route too

Both UHCELL locations operate as on-site facilities inside UHC group hotels rather than as separate clinics with a hotel partnership. The Gangnam location is inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam (2nd-3rd floor, WD Building, Teheran-ro 8-gil 13), and the Seocho location is inside UH FLAT The Seocho (Banpo-daero 16-gil 30). That means you can be treated and return directly to your room to rest in the same building where you are staying.

If you would rather not be seen by other guests, treatments at our clinic take place in private rooms.

Before your consultation, have this ready

  1. Your return date and overall stay schedule. This is the first thing we need to sequence any treatments.
  2. Recent procedure history. Tell us when and where you had fillers, Botox, laser treatments, or similar procedures. Records or photos from that clinic help if you don’t remember the details.
  3. Current medications. A note with the medication name and reason, or a photo of the packaging, is useful.
  4. Health conditions. Solta Medical, Thermage’s manufacturer, states that use has not been studied in people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have diabetes, autoimmune conditions such as lupus, oral herpes, or epilepsy. If any of these apply to you, mention it before your treatment is planned.
  5. Tattoos, permanent makeup, or past filler placement. The same manufacturer material notes that use over tattoos, permanent makeup, or previously filled areas has not been studied either.
  6. What you want to change. Noting whether texture, hydration, or sagging bothers you most makes the diagnosis and planning faster.

FAQ

Can I get a skin booster and a lifting treatment on the same day?

Whether they can be combined depends on your skin condition, the treatment areas, and your stay schedule. We decide the order and spacing after a diagnosis. Tell us your return date in advance and we will work out what fits within it.

Can I consult in Japanese, Chinese, or English?

Our Gangnam location has interpreters on staff for Japanese, Chinese, and English. Ask about precautions and recovery in as much detail as you need during the consultation.

Can I see before-and-after photos to judge the result in advance?

We do not advertise using outcome guarantees or before-and-after comparisons. Instead, ask about the treatment’s mechanism, its approved use, and the recovery process during your consultation, which gives you a clearer basis for deciding what fits your skin.

※ Skin response and recovery time vary by individual. Please consult a specialist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
