How to Choose a Seoul Lifting Clinic in a Short Trip

2026/10/01

  • Lifting Treatment

If you have three to five days in Seoul for a lifting or anti-aging procedure, narrow your clinic choices in this order: how transparent the clinic is about its physicians’ published credentials, whether consultation language carries through to your aftercare instructions, and where you will recover once the procedure ends. At our Gangnam clinic, that recovery can happen one floor up, since we sit inside the UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam building. Korea’s VAT refund for foreign patients’ cosmetic procedures no longer applies as of 2026, so compare total trip cost rather than the procedure fee alone.

Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Yeonjin, director of our Gangnam clinic.

One question I hear often from patients traveling from abroad is which Seoul clinic to pick for a lifting procedure. I answer by giving the order in which to filter candidates, because a short itinerary leaves no room to undo the wrong choice.

The three checks below are ranked by how much they affect your safety and your outcome, and I have paired each one with what our Gangnam clinic can actually offer. Read this knowing it comes from our own clinic, and ask the same three questions of any other clinic you are considering.

Why the Comparison Changed in 2026

Foreign patients visiting Korean clinics have grown quickly. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s April 2025 announcement, 1.17 million foreign patients visited Korea in 2024, and dermatology accounted for roughly 705,000 of them, or 56.6% of the total, as reported by Medical Times. The same announcement noted that dermatology visits from Taiwan rose sharply year over year to about 67,000. The Ministry later reported that foreign patients reached 2.01 million in 2025, crossing two million for the first time.

The cost side changed too. In its 2025 tax reform proposal, the Ministry of Economy and Finance decided the VAT refund exemption for foreign patients’ cosmetic medical services would no longer apply starting in 2026, Metro Seoul reported, and the tax bill passed by the National Assembly in December 2025 did not include an extension. As Dealsite reported, the program that had run since 2016 ended on December 31, 2025.

Once the refund disappears, comparing procedure prices alone understates what you will actually spend. Add the taxi ride after treatment, the extra night you might stay to recover, and interpretation you arrange separately, and the real cost of the trip looks different. The three checks below weigh both safety and these hidden costs together.

Publicly Documented Medical Credentials

I put this question first because the risk of complications from lifting devices tracks training and technique. A 2026 multidisciplinary consensus review on managing complications from focused ultrasound devices (MFU-V, the Ultherapy category), published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, identified poor transducer contact, the operator’s posture and handling, and overlapping pulses on the same spot as leading risk factors, and emphasized that proper training in imaging confirmation matters. Every one of those factors depends on training.

Ask this in consultation: is the physicians’ education, training, and device certification documented somewhere public, such as the clinic’s own site?

My own background is published on our doctors page at our Gangnam clinic: a graduate degree from Seoul National University, training at Seoul National University Hospital, faculty status with Allergan for Juvederm and Botox, Z Key Doctor status for Potenza and Ultherapy, and roles as an instructor with the Korean Academy of Clinical Cosmetic Medicine and a member of the Korean Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Laser Medicine.

What to confirm in the consent form itself before signing is a separate question worth its own checklist, which we cover in What to Check Before Signing a Skin Procedure Consent Form.

Does Consultation Language Reach All the Way to Aftercare?

A lifting consultation covers detail that matters: how many shots go where, how pain will be managed, what to avoid during recovery. If your own language works at booking but the exam room depends on a translation app, you may end up signing a consent form you did not fully understand.

The question to ask is simple: does the same language carry from consultation through the instructions you receive right after treatment?

Our Gangnam clinic has interpreting staff on hand for Japanese, Chinese, and English, so you can ask follow-up questions through an interpreter during the consultation itself rather than afterward. We’ve written more broadly about what language access should look like at a Seoul clinic in Choosing a Seoul Skin Clinic When You Don’t Speak Korean.

Where You Will Recover After Treatment

This is the piece a short itinerary makes easy to overlook. It helps to know what recovery from an Ultherapy-category procedure typically looks like first. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal listed erythema, edema, swelling, bruising, and tenderness as the common adverse events, most of them mild to moderate. The 2026 Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology review cited above reported that, among cases where these reactions occurred, erythema resolved within 48 hours, edema within 8 days, and bruising within 20 days. These figures describe resolution time when a reaction happened, and individual recovery varies.

For the first few hours after treatment, your face may be flushed or swollen, so it helps to know in advance where you will spend that time. How far is it from the clinic to where you are staying, and can you get recovery support there?

Both of our clinics operate as part of the UHC hotel group rather than through a separate referral arrangement. Our Gangnam clinic is inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam at Teheran-ro 8-gil 13, floors 2 and 3, and our Seocho clinic is inside UH FLAT The Seocho. Guests staying at the affiliated hotel can return to a room in the same building after treatment, and procedures are done in private rooms. More on why this kind of recovery setup matters for a short trip is in Why Recovery Infrastructure Matters Before Lifting in Seoul.

On the recovery amenities themselves: guests of the UHC hotel may choose one of two options at no charge, either a 30-minute session in the oxygen chamber or an IV vitamin drip. Using both costs 55,000 won for the drip. Full conditions are listed on our promotions page.

Scoring the Three Checks Side by Side

Ask each candidate clinic the same three questions, and score only what you actually get a confirmed answer to. Leave anything unconfirmed at zero.

Priority Check Question to Ask Our Gangnam Answer
1 Published medical credentials Are the clinic’s physicians’ education, training, and device certifications published publicly? Dr. Kim Yeonjin’s director credentials and training are published on our doctors page
2 Consultation language Does the same language carry from consultation through aftercare instructions? Japanese, Chinese, and English interpreting staff on site
3 Recovery logistics Where will I rest afterward, and how do I get there? Inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam, private-room procedures, oxygen chamber or IV drip option for hotel guests

If two clinics score evenly, I would choose the one whose answer on training transparency is more specific. Convenience matters, but it should not outrank verified training.

The Procedures We Offer

Our lifting and anti-aging menu includes Ultherapy PRIME, Thermage FLX, Sofwave, OligioX, Potenza, HIFU, Rejuran, Skinvive, Juvelook Volume, and skin boosters.

Which device fits depends on which layer of tissue has started to sag, how many recovery days your itinerary allows, and how much discomfort you are willing to tolerate. Treatment planning starts with a skin diagnosis, and we design the plan around that individual case rather than applying one package to everyone. For patients whose return flight is close, we generally sequence any procedure likely to leave swelling or bruising earlier in the trip, and I explain that reasoning during consultation.

What to Confirm Before You Book

  • Settle your return flight time before your trip and share it during consultation.
  • Confirm that the clinic’s physicians publish their training and device certifications.
  • Ask whether consultation language continues through aftercare instructions.
  • Decide in advance where you will spend the first few hours after treatment and how you will get there.
  • Compare total cost across procedure fee, lodging, transport, and interpretation, not the procedure fee alone.

FAQ

Can I get a lifting procedure on the day I arrive in Seoul?

It may be possible on paper, but I generally adjust the schedule during consultation to account for flight delays and the facial swelling that can follow a long flight. Since the 2026 Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology review reported edema from Ultherapy-category procedures taking up to about 8 days to resolve in cases where it occurred, it’s safer to plan the sequence around the gap between your procedure date and your return flight.

Do I need to stay at the hotel to be treated?

No. Treatment is available after consultation regardless of where you stay. The free choice between a 30-minute oxygen chamber session and an IV vitamin drip applies only to guests staying at the affiliated UHC hotel.

Is the foreign-patient VAT refund still available in 2026?

No. The VAT refund exemption for foreign patients’ cosmetic medical services ended on December 31, 2025, and does not apply from 2026 onward. Policy can change again, so confirm the current rule at the time of your visit.

What’s different between the Seocho and Gangnam clinics?

Our Seocho clinic is inside UH FLAT The Seocho, and its director is Dr. Kim Kyungsoo, a graduate of Seoul National University College of Medicine who holds medical licenses in both Korea and Japan. Both clinics operate inside UHC group hotels, so the choice often comes down to which hotel location and schedule fits your trip.
