Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam.
Some people notice that their complexion looks more uneven as summer ends. I do not group every pigmentation concern under one label. I first ask when it appeared, where it became darker, and whether redness or a breakout came before it.
- Melasma, spots, and post-inflammatory pigmentation follow different patterns
- Take weekly records under the same light
- Check the skin barrier, not only the darkest area
- Assess pigment depth and recovery plans separately

Melasma, spots, and post-inflammatory pigmentation follow different patterns
Broad patches over both cheeks, small well-defined spots, and marks left after irritation may all look brown, but their histories can differ.
Record the location, shape, starting point, and preceding skin reaction before discussing a care plan.

Take weekly records under the same light
Warm bathroom lighting and window daylight can make the complexion look different. Use the same time, position, and camera settings to compare changes.
Also note outdoor activity, sunscreen use, breakouts, and exfoliation.

Check the skin barrier, not only the darkest area
When stinging, dryness, or redness keeps returning, adding strong exfoliation may make uneven tone appear more pronounced. Share recent products and reactions.
On sensitive days, keep cleansing and moisturizing simple instead of adding several new products.
Assess pigment depth and recovery plans separately
A photo cannot confirm the pigment type or depth. An in-person assessment should review the current skin and previous treatment reactions before deciding order and spacing.
At UHCELL Clinic Gangnam, we review pigment location, change records, the skin barrier, outdoor activity, and important dates together.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will summer pigmentation fade on its own in autumn?
That varies with the cause and depth. Do not rely on the season alone; compare records taken under the same conditions.
Should I exfoliate at home first?
If the skin stings, looks red, or feels dry, pause strong exfoliation and have the current condition assessed first.
Are melasma and dark spots managed in the same way?
Location, extent, depth, and skin response can differ, so one approach cannot be assumed for every concern. Consult a qualified doctor.
※ Individual results and recovery periods may vary. We recommend consulting a specialist for an accurate medical diagnosis.
