A line that appears mainly during a smile is different from one that remains visible after the expression relaxes. Movement around the mouth and the position of the cheeks can both affect the fold.

The length of a line or a single photo is not enough to choose between fillers and lifting. Overall facial balance and natural expression matter as well.

Volume loss and reduced elasticity can look similar

Less support in the anterior cheek or midface can make the fold look deeper. Changes in skin thickness and elasticity may also make the crease more noticeable.
