Short-looking chin in profile: checks before filler

Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam.

The face may look balanced from the front while the lips seem more prominent or the chin looks short in profile. The chin does not create the profile alone. Lip position, bite, chin length, and the line under the jaw all matter. I compare the face at rest and while speaking instead of planning from one profile photograph.

Separate length from forward projection

A short chin and a chin that appears recessed do not call for the same direction of change. We review the center and lower border from the front, at 45 degrees, and in profile.

A close wide-angle phone photo can enlarge the nose and lips while making the chin look smaller. Photos taken at the same distance and lighting are more useful.

Include the lips and bite

We ask whether closing the lips strains the chin and whether chewing causes pain or joint sounds. These signs can point beyond an isolated cosmetic concern.

If a bite or functional issue is suspected, I do not rush to change the shape with filler. The appropriate assessment comes first, followed by a clear discussion of what filler can and cannot address.

Review the chin and jawline together

Submental fat, skin firmness, and neck posture change the border under the jaw. Filler adds volume.

If the chin is already long or looks heavy downward, adding more volume may not fit the face. I first decide which direction needs support and which area should be left alone.

Bring previous treatment and schedule details

Share the previous filler product and date if known, any dissolving treatment, swelling or bruising, surgery, orthodontic work, and current medicines.

Swelling, bruising, and tenderness vary. If a photo shoot or gathering is important, share the date before deciding on treatment and timing after examination.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can the amount be planned from one photograph?

No. Photographs can distort proportions, so the front and profile, expression, bite, and jawline should be examined directly.

Can I consult if my chin strains when I close my lips?

Yes. The visit should first separate bite or functional concerns and clarify the appropriate order of assessment.

I do not know whether previous filler remains. What should I do?

Bring any product and date information you have. Further treatment is decided after examination.

Can I have treatment shortly before an important event?

Swelling and bruising vary. Allow extra time and share the event date during consultation.

※ Individual results and recovery periods may vary. We recommend consulting a specialist for an accurate medical diagnosis.
