A 2023 notice from the Korean Hospital Association, referencing official Ministry correspondence, instructed member hospitals to confirm through this system that a prospective hire&#8217;s license information matches Ministry records before employment, citing cases in which individuals had used forged licenses to practice medicine without a valid one. An individual patient cannot query another person&#8217;s license directly through this system, so in practice, asking the clinic for the doctor&#8217;s license number and registration details, and confirming the clinic is willing to provide them, is the realistic path.<\/p>\n<p>For patients coming from Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare runs a physician qualification search. According to guidance distributed by Osaka Prefecture, a search requires entering the doctor&#8217;s name, sex, date of birth, medical registration number, and registration date together, and the result only confirms whether a match exists. The same guidance notes that only doctors who submitted a response to the biennial physician and dentist survey appear in the system at all. A result here confirms that a license exists; it says nothing about clinical skill or specialty focus, so license verification and a judgment about competence are separate questions.<\/p>\n<p>I graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and hold medical licenses in both Korea and Japan. For a patient visiting from Japan, being able to confirm that credential through Japan&#8217;s own public system, rather than relying on an interpreted explanation, gives them a starting point that doesn&#8217;t depend on translation.
