Coverage of Korea&#8217;s medical tourism sector has separately noted that testimonial-style marketing, including through influencers, sits outside what the law allows, even though enforcement is uneven in practice.<\/p>\n<p>What that leaves on a clinic page is either testimony that has been worded to stay inside the rule, or content that circulated outside it and cannot be traced back to a real patient. Neither confirms that the physician named in a five-star post is the one who will see you next month. Star ratings measure something entirely different from staff retention, and a high average tells you nothing about whether the same person has been at that address for three years or three weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The two things that do answer the question sit in public filings and in how a clinic responds when you ask directly.<\/p>\n<h2>What Public Filings Show, and Where They Stop<\/h2>\n<p>The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) operates a hospital information service built from the facility disclosures every clinic and hospital in Korea files under Article 43 of the National Health Insurance Act. The same underlying data appears quarterly on Korea&#8217;s Public Data Portal as a nationwide directory of clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies, listing basic facility details, specialty designations, and registered equipment.<\/p>\n<p>This directory will not tell you how long an individual doctor has held their position. A smaller, physician-led structure makes it more likely the same person carries a case from diagnosis through follow-up, though the filings alone will not confirm this either way. That is what the direct questions in the next section are for.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth reading the physician page with the same test applied. Credentials that name a real institution, a real device manufacturer, or a real professional society can be checked against something outside the clinic&#8217;s own website. Under Korea&#8217;s Act on Support for Overseas Expansion of the Medical System and Attraction of International Patients, a clinic that wants to treat foreign patients has to register for that purpose, and the registration is not a formality.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Health and Welfare has described the registration system as a 2009 addition to the Medical Service Act meant to protect the rights and safety of foreign patients, strengthened in 2016 when the current law added a mandatory insurance requirement. A registered clinic must carry medical malpractice liability insurance, or belong to a medical indemnity cooperative, with an annual coverage limit of at least 100 million KRW for a clinic-level institution, and that coverage has to explicitly include foreign patients. Registration also has to be renewed rather than filed once and forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>You can look up a specific clinic&#8217;s registration status on the MEDICALKOREA international medical information portal. What that lookup confirms is narrow but concrete: whether the institution is legally permitted to treat foreign patients at all, and whether a functioning compensation structure exists if a complication needs to be resolved after you have gone home. Both of our locations carry this registration, and I would encourage anyone booking from outside Korea to check it for any clinic they are considering, not only ours.<\/p>\n<p>The scale of this matters more than it used to. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 1.17 million foreign patients visited Korea for care in 2024, nearly double the 610,000 recorded in 2023. Dermatology accounted for 705,000 of those visits, or 56.6 percent, the largest share of any specialty, ahead of plastic surgery at 11.4 percent and integrated internal medicine at 10.0 percent. The ministry also reported that clinic-level institutions, as opposed to hospitals, handled 82.0 percent of foreign patient visits, up 138.4 percent from the prior year, and that Seoul accounted for 85.4 percent of all foreign patients nationwide, with 1,994 registered institutions in the city. That is a large field of registered options concentrated in one district, which is exactly the situation where the registration lookup earns its five minutes.<\/p>\n<h2>Three Questions Worth Asking in Consultation<\/h2>\n<p>Once the public record has narrowed your list, the remaining answer comes from the clinic itself. If I were the one asking, these are the three questions I would put to any clinic before booking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does the person consulting with me also perform the procedure?<\/strong> Where consultation and treatment are split between two people, whatever is agreed on in the consultation room, intensity, area, depth, has to survive a handoff intact, and that depends entirely on how well it gets written down. I consult and treat the same patients myself, because the depth and looseness I assess during diagnosis has to translate directly into the device settings I choose.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I request the same doctor for a follow-up visit?<\/strong> &#8220;You can request a specific director&#8221; and &#8220;whoever is on duty that day will see you&#8221; describe two different operating structures, and the difference shows up most in treatments that repeat on a schedule, like lifting procedures spaced months apart. Someone who remembers exactly where and how deep the last session went designs the next one from that memory.
