What bothers you in the mirror is the contour of your face, yet the intake form is asking about dental work.

But lifting isn’t a treatment that deals with the skin’s surface alone. Which layer the energy reaches, and which areas it goes into, is what separates the outcomes. So we look at what’s going on inside the face as well.

Why do we ask about dental history before lifting?

The jawline and cheeks sit close to the alveolar bone.

Radiofrequency and ultrasound lifting deliver heat or vibration into this area. When there are metal crowns or implant structures in the mouth, the same setting can feel different in that spot.

There are three things I check.

Where the crown or implant sits — which side, which position

How long it has been since that dental work

Whether any discomfort remains in that area now

Once I know this, I can decide what to avoid before anything else.

Does having a crown mean you can’t have lifting?

No, it doesn’t.

This is where misunderstandings tend to start. Some people assume metal rules it out entirely; others wave it off as irrelevant. In my experience, neither is right.

What matters isn’t whether it can be done. It’s which areas to treat and which to avoid.

On the side with the crown I keep the energy lower, and make up for it elsewhere in the design. Going in stronger doesn’t produce a better result. Reaching the right place accurately matters far more.

I explain this adjustment during the consultation. Deciding it at the planning stage is easier for everyone than changing course mid-treatment.

If you’ve had dental work recently

Timing is part of the picture too.

If you’ve had an extraction or an implant placed — anything that leaves a wound in the gum — it’s better not to add thermal stimulation while that area heals. And while swelling is still present, assessing the facial contour itself isn’t accurate.

By contrast, scaling or a straightforward filling puts little strain on the gum, and usually doesn’t affect the treatment schedule much.

When there’s an area still healing, I sometimes suggest leaving that spot alone and starting with the rest. Postponing everything isn’t the only answer.

Orthodontic appliances are a different matter, though. In that case it’s safer to check with your dentist first.

What to sort out before your consultation

To use a short consultation precisely, it helps to come with a few things organized.

Where your crowns or implants are (left or right, upper or lower)

When you last had dental treatment

Whether there’s any discomfort in that area now

Which part of your face concerns you most for lifting

I ask about the fourth one especially. Sometimes the area that concerns you overlaps with the area we need to treat carefully. When that happens, we rebuild the order.

And to be straightforward with you, there are cases where one session doesn’t get you all the way there. When that’s true, I explain why before we begin.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I have an implant — can I still have lifting?

We decide after confirming the position, when the dental work was done, and its current condition. Often we adjust or avoid the energy in that area and make up for it elsewhere in the design. We confirm it together during the consultation.

How long should I wait after dental treatment?

It depends on the type of treatment. If it left a wound in the gum, we check how healing is progressing first. For something like scaling, with little strain on the gum, it usually doesn’t affect scheduling much.

Can I have it done while wearing orthodontic appliances?

In that case we recommend checking with your dentist first. The assessment changes with the type of appliance and the stage of treatment.

Lifting is not a treatment where going in stronger produces a better result. Deciding which areas to treat and which to avoid comes first.

When you prepare for a consultation, please tell us your dental history along with the area of your face that concerns you. We’ll confirm your current condition and explain the range and the order of care that’s actually needed. Consultation is available in English, Japanese, and Chinese.

※ Individual results and recovery periods may vary.
