Working backward from a wedding, shoot, or travel date, rather than from a generic repeat schedule, is what actually determines when to book.

Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam. Patients often ask me how frequently they need lifting or skin booster treatments to keep the kind of firmness they see on television or on social media. I do not answer with a single number, because each treatment reaches its visible result on a different timeline. The more useful first question is when you need to look your best, and working backward from that date.

Borrow the Date, Not the Interval

KBS World TV’s 2026 program “Got the Spot in Gangnam” follows an influencer visiting well-known spots around Gangnam. What viewers see in that kind of footage is a finished result. Getting to that moment requires knowing in advance how long each treatment takes to show its effect.

If you already have a fixed date, such as a shoot, wedding, graduation, or an important presentation, treatments should be placed backward from that date rather than scheduled at a routine interval. Once the event date becomes the anchor, “how often” turns into “what should start when,” and the answer becomes far more specific.

Lifting Results Build Over Months

Lifting treatments need to be scheduled around a result that appears months later, not on the day of treatment itself. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that a single session of ultrasound-based lifting typically produces mild lifting and firming between two and six months afterward, with further sessions offering additional benefit. Ulthera, performed at our Gangnam location, belongs to this focused-ultrasound category.

Radiofrequency lifting follows a different timeline. The same American Academy of Dermatology guidance explains that radiofrequency treatment produces some immediate tightening, but because new collagen takes time to form, the best results appear around six months later and can last two to three years with appropriate skin care. Thermage falls into this radiofrequency category.

The maintenance window deserves a closer look at the evidence itself. A 2025 systematic review in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal on high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) found that outcomes such as skin tightening and wrinkle improvement appear within three months and can last up to roughly a year, and noted that longer-term studies are still needed to establish durability beyond twelve months. For that reason, the right time for a repeat lifting session is better set by checking in a consultation how much of the previous result remains, rather than by a fixed calendar interval.

Skin Boosters Are Planned by Count and Interval

Skin boosters are usually planned as a set number of sessions at fixed intervals rather than a single repeat date. The evidence differs by product, so I’ll walk through two examples separately.

Skinvive. According to the patient information labeling submitted to the U.S. FDA, the clinical trial allowed a touch-up treatment one month after the first session, and 73% of participants chose to receive it. Participants were then offered retreatment at the six-month mark. That trial enrolled adults aged 21 and older and measured cheek skin smoothness, with 56% maintaining improvement at six months. Allergan Aesthetics’ June 2026 announcement of the FDA approval for the neck appearance indication, reported separately by Logan Lutton at Managed Healthcare Executive, states that results from an optimal treatment last six months and may include an optional touch-up at one month. The six-month figure marks when the trial measured results and offered retreatment, not a fixed interval that applies to every patient.

Rejuran (injectable polynucleotide, PN). A 2024 survey published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology by Rho and colleagues, which included 235 Korean dermatologists, found that three sessions at four-week intervals was the most commonly recommended regimen. The same survey found that 79% of respondents who use PN combine it with energy-based devices such as radiofrequency or HIFU. These figures describe reported clinical practice patterns, not a comparative trial establishing one interval as most effective.

Working Backward From Your Event Date

The table below translates the timelines above into a start date measured against your event day (D-day). It is not a recommendation to receive every treatment listed. Which treatment you need should be decided after a skin diagnosis, and the table is meant to help calculate when to start whichever treatment is chosen.

Treatment category

When results appear (evidence)

Suggested start relative to event

Ultrasound lifting (e.g., Ulthera)

Mild improvement 2-6 months after one session (AAD)

Around 6 months before, no later than 2 months before

Radiofrequency lifting (e.g., Thermage)

Best results around 6 months (AAD)

Around 6 months before

Rejuran, 3 sessions

3 sessions at 4-week intervals is a common regimen (Rho et al., 2024)

First session 12+ weeks before, last session around 4 weeks before

Skinvive

Measured/touch-up at 1 month, checked again at 6 months (U.S. FDA label)

2 months before if a touch-up is wanted, 1 month before for a single session

It’s best not to schedule the final injectable session immediately before your event. In the Skinvive neck trial, participants reported redness, bruising, tenderness, and swelling that were generally mild and resolved within two weeks. That data comes from one product used on the neck, so it does not automatically apply to every injectable, but given how long bruising or swelling can linger, I recommend leaving at least two weeks between your last injection and the event date.

If You’re Only in Seoul for a Few Days

If your stay in Seoul runs two to seven days, separate treatments that finish in a single visit from treatments that require repeat visits. Lifting can usually be planned as one session, with its result appearing over the following months, so it fits a short trip reasonably well. Treatments that need multiple sessions, such as three rounds of Rejuran four weeks apart, require you to confirm whether a return visit is realistic. Skinvive’s optional one-month touch-up is the same kind of choice: it is optional, but it requires coming back.

Before your consultation, I ask patients to have the following ready:

Arrival and departure dates

The date you need to look your best for (an event, a shoot, travel, etc.)

The name and timing of any lifting or injectable treatment received in the past year

Whether you plan to return to Korea again

A list of current medications

With these five items, we can divide what to do on this visit from what to postpone to a future one, right in the consultation.

Four Things to Check When Choosing a Clinic

When patients ask what makes a clinic worth choosing, I point to what to check rather than a name. The four items below determine whether the backward-planning approach described above is actually possible at a given clinic.

Does it design treatment after a skin diagnosis? The same complaint about firmness can call for different treatments depending on skin condition. At our Gangnam location, treatment is designed after an individual skin diagnosis.

Does it build the schedule around your travel dates? Your departure date and the date you need results by should both be weighed together when deciding what fits into this visit.

Can you consult in your own language or in English? Our Gangnam location has Japanese, Chinese, and English-speaking interpreting staff on site.

Is the recovery space close to the treatment room? UHCELL Clinic Gangnam operates as an on-site amenity inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam, a UHC group hotel building. Treatments take place in private treatment rooms, and guests staying at that hotel have their recovery space in the same building. Our Seocho location operates inside UH FLAT The Seocho in the same way.

For reference, I completed my graduate studies at Seoul National University and trained at Seoul National University Hospital. I serve as faculty for Allergan (Juvederm, Botox) and as a Key Doctor for Potenza and Ulthera, and I lecture for the Korean Society of Clinical Cosmetic Medicine as a full member of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic and Laser Medicine.

FAQ

Can I receive lifting and a skin booster together?
Many patients plan them together. In the Rho et al. (2024) survey, 79% of respondents using PN injections reported combining them with devices such as radiofrequency or HIFU. Whether to receive them on the same day or space them apart depends on skin condition and your travel schedule, which we decide during consultation.

How long does a single lifting session last?
It depends on the category. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that radiofrequency lifting results can last two to three years with proper skin care, while the HIFU systematic review found results lasting up to about a year. The right time for your next session is best judged by how much of the current result remains.

My event is one month away. Is it still worth getting lifting now?
Lifting results generally take two to six months to appear, so it is unlikely to show its full effect in time for an event one month away. In that case, it makes more sense to plan lifting for after the event and discuss, in consultation, a treatment with evidence measured around the one-month mark instead.

Please let us know the date you need to look your best for and your travel dates when you reach out. In your consultation at our Gangnam location, we can work out together which treatments fit this visit, and which should wait for a future one. Treatment information is available on the UHCELL Clinic website.

※ Individual skin response and recovery time vary.
