Same-Day Soothing Care After a Procedure: What Decides It

Soothing and hydration care right after a procedure is often possible the same day, but what you can add depends on which procedure you had. After injectable treatments like fillers, rest and activity pacing matter most; after ablative laser resurfacing, the cleansing and moisturizing routine your physician sets matters most.

Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam.

Patients visiting Seoul on a short schedule often ask me the same question: “Once my procedure is finished, can I go straight into soothing or hydration care that same day?” The question usually comes from wanting to finish both the procedure and the recovery before flying home. My answer is yes, you usually can. What changes is what we add to your skin that day, and that is decided by the procedure you just had.

The Goal of Same-Day Care Is Reducing Added Stimulation

Right after a procedure, your skin has already been through heat, micro-injury, or injection trauma. Same-day care should not add to that load. That is why soothing, hydration, and rest are the default, not an extra treatment layered on top.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ guidance on laser resurfacing recovery recommends applying the protective skincare your physician prescribes, then daily sunscreen once the skin has healed. Mayo Clinic notes that applying thick creams or dressings to the face after laser resurfacing can sometimes worsen acne or cause small white bumps (milia) to appear temporarily. In other words, following your physician’s specific regimen matters more than applying more product.

What Same-Day Care Looks Like, by Procedure

Procedure type Common reaction right after Focus of same-day care What to postpone
Injectables (fillers, etc.) Swelling, bruising, temporary numbness or redness Normal daily activity is fine; rest without overexertion Intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours
Ablative laser resurfacing A mild sunburn-like feeling, redness, swelling, days of itching or stinging Cleansing and ointment/moisturizer exactly as instructed Picking or peeling scabs
Lifting devices (Ultherapy, Thermage, etc.) Varies by device, intensity, and treated area Soothing and rest within the range your physician outlines Adding other treatments without guidance

Injectables. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons explains that filler recovery varies by person and by filler type, and while most activities can resume right away, avoiding strenuous physical activity for the first 24-48 hours is generally advised to limit swelling and bruising. Skin boosters such as Rejuran Healer or Skinvive are also injectables, but the product and injection technique differ, so follow the specific guidance given for the treatment you received that day.

Ablative laser resurfacing. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, skin that has had laser resurfacing typically feels like a mild sunburn, with redness and swelling, and may itch or sting for several days. Picking or peeling scabs can lead to scarring and should be avoided. Cleveland Clinic advises cleansing the treated area two to five times a day and then applying ointment or moisturizer to prevent scab formation. The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery notes that recovery from resurfacing takes roughly three to ten days depending on depth and laser type. For this procedure, same-day care means starting this cleansing and moisturizing routine correctly rather than adding anything extra. If you are watching your departure date, count backward from it using this recovery window.

Lifting devices. Devices such as Ultherapy or Thermage use ultrasound or radiofrequency energy, and the immediate reaction depends on the device, intensity, and treated area. Whether to add another treatment or routine the same day is something we decide together when we plan the order and scope of your procedure during your skin assessment.

What to Tell Us Before Your Consultation

The scope of same-day care depends on your schedule and where you are staying. Sharing the following in advance makes it easier for us to plan your procedure:

  1. Your departure date and flight time. Procedures like ablative laser resurfacing that need several days to recover should be scheduled by counting backward from your departure.
  2. Your plans for the day after. If you have exercise or a long walking tour planned, we check whether it overlaps with the 24-48 hour activity restriction after injectables.
  3. Current medications and recent procedures. A photo of a prescription or medication packaging is enough.
  4. Your preferred consultation language. Our Gangnam location has interpreting staff available in Japanese, Chinese, and English.

Symptoms That Need Immediate Attention

The FDA advises seeking immediate medical help if any of the following occur during or right after a filler procedure:

  • Pain unlike anything you normally feel
  • Vision changes
  • Skin near the injection site turning white, gray, or blue
  • Stroke warning signs: sudden difficulty speaking, numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, trouble walking, facial drooping, a severe headache, dizziness, or confusion

Even if you are resting in your room, do not wait if any of these appear. Contact the clinic right away. If you notice vision changes or stroke warning signs, call emergency services immediately.

FAQ

Q. Can I still have a procedure if I’m not staying at a UHC hotel?
You can consult and be treated without staying at a UHC hotel.

Q. Can I wear makeup the same day as a laser procedure?
For ablative laser resurfacing, Cleveland Clinic’s guidance recommends waiting until the treated area has healed before using makeup to cover redness, and choosing oil-free products. Other lasers vary by intensity, so follow the specific instructions you receive after your session.
