Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam.
Many people schedule dermal fillers before summer holidays, photo shoots, or important events. Swelling and bruising can occur after injections, and heat, exercise, alcohol, or sauna plans may make discomfort more noticeable. Recovery time should therefore be part of the schedule.

Swelling and bruising can occur, but the pattern of change matters
Local swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness may occur after filler injections and often improve over time. However, rapidly worsening one-sided pain, pale or mottled skin, visual changes, or a severe headache require immediate contact with the treating clinician or emergency care.
Recovery varies with the treatment area, product, amount injected, and individual skin and vascular anatomy. If you have an important event, allow time for swelling and bruising to settle rather than scheduling at the last minute.
Plan exercise, alcohol, and saunas around early heat and swelling
Strenuous exercise raises body temperature and blood flow and may make swelling or bruising more noticeable. Patients are commonly advised to avoid intense activity for the first 24 to 48 hours. Alcohol may also worsen bruising and swelling, so it is sensible to avoid it during early recovery.
Hot saunas, steam rooms, and long hot baths may increase heat and discomfort. The exact restriction depends on the treated area and technique, so follow the instructions from your injector.
Do not rub or massage the area unless specifically instructed
Strong pressure, rubbing, or self-directed massage can irritate the treated area. Cleanse and apply makeup gently only after checking the injection sites and following your clinician’s instructions.
At UHCELL Clinic Gangnam, we evaluate facial movement, volume distribution, important dates, and previous treatment responses to design an individualized recovery and aftercare plan.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use a cold pack after fillers?
Do not place ice directly on the skin for a long time. Wrap a cool pack in a clean cloth and use it briefly, following your clinician’s specific advice.
Can I go to the gym or run the next day?
Intense exercise may worsen early swelling and bruising. It is commonly avoided for 24 to 48 hours, but timing varies by treatment and recovery.
Can I cover bruising with makeup?
Once the injection sites are closed and comfortable, apply makeup gently without rubbing or pressing the area.
Which symptoms need immediate attention?
Worsening severe pain, sudden skin color changes, blisters, visual symptoms, or one-sided weakness require urgent medical evaluation.
If you are planning dermal fillers around a summer event, UHCELL Clinic Gangnam can help you review your facial condition, treatment goals, and recovery schedule together.
