Filler History Before Ultherapy

  • Lifting Treatment

Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam.

Does old cheek filler matter when you come in to discuss your jawline? Tell us about it, even if it no longer looks noticeable. Focusing only on the treatment you want now can leave an important part of your history out of the conversation. If your memory is hazy, start with the records you can find.

When planning lifting treatment, I consider skin thickness, fat distribution and the direction of sagging together. Areas that need lifting differ from areas where we want to preserve volume. Past procedures help inform that distinction.

Appearance does not tell the whole story

Mention it anyway. The shape of your cheeks or chin cannot reliably identify a filler product or its placement. Bring the treatment date, area and product name if you know them. If you do not, start with the approximate date and clinic.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound to deliver heat at a target depth. The manufacturer’s US instructions say treatment directly over dermal fillers has not been evaluated and is not recommended. This guidance should not be generalized to every other device.

Is the number of months enough?

Time alone is not enough. The filler type, placement, current skin condition and proposed treatment area all matter. Do not apply an online waiting interval to yourself or assume an old filler has entirely disappeared.

I place more importance on distinguishing where to treat and where to avoid than on increasing intensity. A cheek with limited volume and a sagging jawline do not have the same treatment goal. A history of filler does not automatically rule out treatment across the whole face either. The actual area must be assessed in person.

Four details to bring to your consultation

A phone note is fine. Preparing these details can save you from spending the appointment trying to remember them.

  • When and where you had treatment
  • The exact area and side, such as the cheek, temple or chin
  • The product name and amount, if known
  • Any symptoms afterward and additional procedures

Record what you know. If your receipt does not name the product, ask the original clinic for your treatment record. Older photographs help explain changes in appearance, but cannot establish the product or injection depth. Mention any filler-dissolving procedure, thread lift or surgery as well.

When an examination comes first

Do not press the area. Swelling, pain or redness at a previous injection site should be examined before you plan another lifting treatment. Note when it began, whether it recurs and whether the area feels hot. An article cannot determine whether filler or another issue is responsible.

A consultation point: even if your concern is the jawline, mentioning cheek filler helps us plan for the face as a whole. Share your medicines, supplements, allergies, implanted devices and surgical history too. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own to prepare for treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Should I mention filler from years ago?

Yes. Share what you remember. The number of years does not establish that all of the product has disappeared.

What if I have no idea which product it was?

Say that you do not know. Note the approximate date and area, and ask the previous clinic for records. Do not guess a similar product name.

Should I get the filler dissolved first?

Do not set that sequence yourself. An examination and product history are needed to determine whether removal is appropriate at all.

Can a different area be treated on the same day?

Different locations alone do not settle the question. Discuss the treatment types, areas and your health before deciding on timing or sequence.

For an Ultherapy consultation at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam, bring your filler history alongside the changes you hope to achieve. We will assess your skin and the volume to preserve before discussing treatment areas. Consultation is available in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
