Follow-Up Care in Taiwan After Seoul Treatment: 3 Steps
2026/10/08
- Skin Care
Follow-up after returning to Taiwan rests on three things you set before leaving Seoul: a written treatment record, a saved contact channel, and the right photo check-in timing for each procedure. Botox and other injectables show change within days, while Ulthera and Thermage lifting are judged over several months, so the two need different schedules. If you notice vision changes, pale or purple skin at the treated site, or pain that keeps getting worse, see a doctor in Taiwan right away rather than waiting on a reply from Korea.
Hello, I am Dr. Kim Yeon-jin, Chief Physician at UHCELL Clinic Gangnam. Today I want to walk through how to keep track of your recovery once you have returned to Taiwan after a procedure in Seoul. Once you are back home, I cannot examine your skin in person. So the record you leave before departure, together with the photos you send afterward, becomes the basis for any judgment we make together.
Why This Has to Be Set Up Before You Leave Seoul
Most of what you need for a smooth follow-up is easiest to gather while you are still in Seoul. The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) advises patients considering cosmetic treatment abroad to check, before booking, how complications are handled, where aftercare is provided, and what it costs, noting that an overseas clinic may not have a care team connected to the patient’s home country. The National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) in the UK gives similar guidance: ask about aftercare and follow-up arrangements before you travel, and disclose your full medical history, including any medication you are taking.
The same principle applies if you end up seeing a doctor in Taiwan. That doctor can only start assessing your case once they know exactly what procedure was done, where, and with what product or device.
Five Records to Collect Before Departure
I recommend putting together the following before you leave Seoul. Article 21 of Korea’s Medical Service Act gives patients the right to request access to or copies of their own medical records, and a clinic cannot refuse this without a justified reason. It is simpler to request these while you are still here than after you are back in Taiwan.
- Procedure name and treated area: for example, “Ulthera, jawline and submental area,” naming the procedure and the site together.
- Product details for injectables: for Botox, filler, or Rejuran Healer, keep the product name, dose, and where possible the lot number and expiry date from the packaging.
- Device settings for energy-based treatments: for Thermage, Sofwave, or Ulthera, keep the device name and shot count or treatment level used.
- Aftercare instructions and any prescribed medication: if you were given antibiotics or pain relief, keep the drug names and how long you were told to take them.
- A contact channel and a same-week photo: save a channel you can reach us through once home, and take a baseline photo in Seoul the day after treatment.
With these five on hand, a single photo you send later needs far less explanation of what was done, when, and where.
Three Follow-Up Checkpoints, and Why They Differ by Procedure
The right time to check results is not the same for every procedure, because results appear at different speeds. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) notes that botulinum toxin treatment typically shows results within 3 to 7 days and that the improvement lasts roughly 3 to 4 months. Ulthera and Thermage work differently: they use energy to trigger change inside the skin over time, so their results are judged over several months rather than right after treatment. The table below outlines the photo check-in points I recommend.
| Checkpoint | Example procedures | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Before departure (while still in Seoul) | All procedures | Swelling, redness, bruising, injection marks, and a baseline photo |
| 2. About 1-2 weeks after returning | Botox, filler, Rejuran Healer, and other injectables | Whether the Botox effect has appeared and whether the injection site is recovering normally |
| 3. 1, 3, and 6 months after returning | Ulthera, Thermage, Sofwave, and other lifting treatments | Change compared with the baseline photo |
A photo is only useful if it can be compared fairly. Take it with makeup removed, in the same location and lighting, from the front, both 45-degree angles, and the side, at the same distance each time. If your baseline photo in Seoul follows this same format, later photos can be placed next to it for a real comparison.
What to Send When You Reach Out From Taiwan
Our Gangnam clinic maintains an official KakaoTalk channel along with WhatsApp and LINE as contact options. Saving this channel before you leave means you can reach the same point of contact from Taiwan.
When you message us, please include:
- The treatment date and procedure name.
- When the symptom started and how it has changed since — improving or getting worse.
- A current photo taken in the format described above, alongside your baseline photo.
- The name of any new medication you have started taking since returning.
Some symptoms are difficult to judge from a photo alone. In those cases, an in-person visit to a doctor in Taiwan comes first.
Signs to Treat Immediately in Taiwan, Not on Our Schedule
The symptoms below are not something to manage on a follow-up timeline or by waiting for a reply from Korea. Go to the nearest clinic or emergency department right away.
- Blurred vision or any change in what you can see
- Skin at the treated site turning pale white, purple, or mottled
- Pain that keeps getting worse over time
- Warm, red swelling accompanied by pus or fever
- Swelling that is rapidly worsening
When you are seen, show the doctor the five records described above. That is the material a local physician needs to understand what procedure and product were used.
Where You Stay Shapes That First Checkpoint
The first checkpoint, the days before departure, is also where follow-up planning starts. UHCELL Clinic Gangnam is located inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam (2nd-3rd floor, WD Building, Teheran-ro 8-gil 13), part of the UHC hotel group. Staying in the same building means you do not need to travel separately between where you rest and where you are treated, so you can take your baseline photo and ask any remaining questions before departure without adding extra transit. Treatment is available in a private room, and our Gangnam clinic has Japanese-, Chinese-, and English-speaking interpreting staff on-site.
FAQ
Can I continue my follow-up with a local clinic in Taiwan?
Yes, a local medical provider can see you, and that provider decides what examination or treatment is appropriate. Having a record of the procedure name, treated area, product, and device settings makes it easier for that doctor to understand your situation quickly.
When should I judge whether Botox worked, and when should I plan my next Seoul visit?
The AAD notes that most patients see results within 3 to 7 days, with improvement lasting about 3 to 4 months and sometimes longer. Taking a photo 1-2 weeks after you return gives you a comparison point when you are deciding on your next Seoul visit.
If I don’t see much change a few weeks after a lifting treatment, is that a problem?
Ulthera and Thermage are judged over several months, so a few weeks is too early to draw a conclusion. Compare photos taken under the same conditions at 1, 3, and 6 months against your baseline. That said, if you notice worsening pain or skin color change as described above, see a doctor right away regardless of timing.
Once your return date is set, send us your departure date and the procedure you are interested in through our Gangnam KakaoTalk channel. We can plan your treatment and your pre-departure checkpoint around that date together.
